The Scrum Master is a key role within the department with skills and tools to coach teams in their understanding and applying Scrum and the Agile process. They master several techniques for coaching, conversation, and facilitation in order to help people, teams, and organisations discover what works best for them. The Scrum Master will be responsible for modelling the capacity of the scrum team to ensure that sprints are fully planned and can be committed to, and use modelling techniques for prioritizing the developments.
Being a Scrum Master requires specific skills and traits.
Scrum Masters understand the people aspect of Scrum and how to work with people. Scrum Masters understand how Scrum Teams are formed. Scrum Masters have the tools and ideas to get Scrum teams going, guide them along the way and help them continuously self-develop to become successful through better collaboration.

What I need to do

Key Responsibilities

• Support the day to day running of the scrum team through standup meetings
• Coach and mentor the team to instil an agile approach and culture
• Ensure blockers are removed from the sprints so that the team can run efficiently
• Contribute at a senior level on all business problems
• Work with the product owners to prioritise the backlog and build the sprint plans
• Implement a process to measure the capacity of the scrum teams to ensure sprint success
• Manage workload of up to 3 scrum teams simultaneously
• Act as an advocate for scrum to help drive culture change

How I will succeed

• Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organisation and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organisation
• Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
• Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without blame or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
• Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
• Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
• Planning the workload of the scrum teams from a day to day point of view, and managing the capacity of the sprints to ensure successful delivery.

What I need to know

This role would suit a pro-active, self-motivated, confident person with good organisational and communication skills with strong attention to detail. Extensive experience within Agile. You enjoy working with others and getting the best out of them. You will need to be diplomatic while in negotiations & troubleshooting. Maintaining a high standard of attention to detail with clarity of communication. Ours is a fast moving environment so the ability to stay calm under pressure while giving clear direction is essential.
• First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)
• Experience playing the Scrum Master role within an agile environment applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
• Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
• Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc)

• Doing everything possible to ensure delighting customers
• Guiding the team and organisation on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers
• Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self-organisation
• Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
• Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
• Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
• Skills and techniques to coach teams in understanding and applying Scrum
