Report on Jobs: IT and Computing sector leads upturn

By

The latest issue of the REC/KPMG Report on Jobs, published last week, paints an encouraging picture for the Technology sector. Data collated for March shows strong growth of permanent job vacancies within the IT and Computing industry.

Technology has seen the highest demand for staff by sector, as was the case one year previously.

Overall, figures show a positive recovery in the sector and in employer confidence. This is further reflected in the modest monthly increase in demand up from February’s figure.

CAD, CAM, Developers and General IT skills were reported to be in short supply for permanent staff whilst General IT and Business Analyst were noted as the key skills shortage for temporary staff.

Commenting on the latest data, Jeff Brooks, Chair of REC Technology says:

“This week’s Report on Jobs positions the IT and Computing sector in a favourable light – with a leading rise in permanent job vacancy growth to an eight month high.

This is great news for our industry. It can be considered a step towards recovery and a strong demonstration of growing employer confidence. Above all, it provides a positive outlook for jobseekers.

We know that more needs to be done to fuel growth but this is certainly encouraging.”
